About the Holiday Birds issue

This holiday season three-stamp issue features colourful illustrations of three birds that overwinter in Canada. The first stamp features a cardinal (Permanent™ domestic rate), the second stamp features a blue jay (U.S. rate), and the third stamp features an evening grosbeak (international rate). This is the first stamp by Hambly & Woolley Inc.

The social and family-oriented evening grosbeak is among the many creatures in nature that bring good tidings. Their brilliant colours and frequent visits to backyard feeders brighten the season. They can convey meaningful messages, which may vary by culture or tradition. These grosbeaks are said to have the unique ability to awaken parental feelings and play a role in facilitating healing, forgiveness, and harmony, particularly within family life.

About the design

With vibrant tones, this illustrated stamp features a yellow, black and white evening grosbeak sitting on a branch filled with red berries, facing left.
