About the maple

Returning for its second year, the Everlasting Maple coin showcases three leaves belonging to the sugar maple, Acer saccharum, named for the sweet sap it produces each spring. While Canada holds the title of the world's top maple syrup producer, maple sugar was a widely used sweetener in Canada until the late 19th century when cane sugar became more readily available.
