About the Eid issue

This is Canada Post's fourth Eid stamp. The others were issued in 2017, 2020 and 2021. The Eid issue is one of several annual issues that mark events of importance to Canada's culturally diverse population.

About Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha

Celebrated by more than a million Muslims in Canada, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are two of Islam's most important religious holidays. Eid al-Fitr begins in early May this year and signals the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. Eid al-Adha begins in early July this year and commemorates the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to the Kaaba in Mecca, one of the holiest sites in Islam.

About the design

The stamp features a vivid illustration of an Eid lantern glowing brilliantly from within. The lantern is embellished with meticulous pierced designs, allowing the colourful light to shine through. This light emanates onto the stamp's rich, layered hues of warm gold, tranquil blue and vivid purple, created by illustrator Richard Nalli-Petta using a montage of photographs and illustrations. The lighting of lanterns is a common practice during Eid celebrations.
